Greetings Dancers!

As the cold of Winter is replaced by the warmth of Spring, the beasts and birds begin to emerge and frolic. If you feel the same desire, then you should not miss out on the opportunity provided by this year’s Saltare Dance Collegium!

This year’s Collegium will be held on June 18 in Chattanooga, TN. There will be the usual offerings of excellent classes, covering dances both simple and challenging, European and Eastern. We will also have classes covering music and dance-related culture to provide some extra spice.

In addition to a full day of instruction, there will be an evening of feasting and revelry to suit every taste. For more information, please visit the event website.

Now that the temperatures are scaling upwards, we invite you to join us for armored and rapier combat practices at the Amnicola Marsh section of the Chattanooga Riverpark each Sunday at 2:00 PM. This is a reminder that on Saturday, January15, 2010 we will gather together for joy and learning at the Privateer Yacht Club in Hixson, TN. We will begin at 10 AM and continue as late as we will.

THE SITE

It is heated entirely by wood-burning. Please, plan to dress warmly (Temperatures are likely to hover in the mid thirties). It will be a very Medieval experience. The Chapins have agreed to come early and start the fire. The site is on the small side, but really beautiful. Please, bring any banners and other heraldic decor that will help us to create ambiance. The site is wet but please avoid original containers. Keeping in mind, of course that non-SCA yacht club members may be present from time to time.

DIRECTIONS

DIRECTIONS to 4714 Privateer Road, Hixson, TN 37343-4111 (Privateer Yacht Club):

From I-24 /I-75:
Take the ramp onto TN-153 N (Toward Hixson)
Take the exit toward Access Rd/Lake Resort Dr
Merge on N Access Rd.
In the round-about, take the 2nd exit onto Lake Resort Dr.
Go 1.6 miles. Make a sharp right onto Gann Store Rd.
After 1.1 miles, Gann Store Rd will become Privateer Rd.
The entrace to the club will be at the end of a cul de sac. Follow the narrow road to parking and the club house.

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE

9 AM – Site opens
10:30 – *A cooking workshop on a period meaty dish – given by L. Faelen
11:15 – “Documenting and Registering Your Name (or a Household Name)” – a class given by Tobias Morgan
12:00 – Potluck Luncheon – coordinated by L. Elizabeth (Please bring your feast gear.) Cynewise has prepared a lyrical selection for our entertainment. You will not want to miss it.
1:30 – *A fighter’s and garber’s workshop on the construction of arming coats - given by L. Wolfgar
2:00 – “How do I pronounce that?” – learn to determine the linguistic origin of a name and pronounce it in an un-newb-like fashion – given by L. Guntram
2:30 – *A make and take divination workshop on Norse runes – given by Runfridr
3:00 – “Monastic Orders of the Middle Ages” – learn the distinguishing characteristics and practices of several monastic orders – given by L. Guntram
5 PM – Mongolian Gift Exchange

ALL DAY:

Gaming Salon

*** The day’s workshops are given at the expense of the teachers. There is no cost for event attendance. Please, if you plan to attend a workshop, kindly prepare to offer your instructor a small donation to offset his costs.***

Gift exchange items should be inexpensive – no more than ten dollars – and period, peri-oid, or generally useful to SCAdians. (No re-gifting that gift basket full of body wash!) Our children will also have their own separate exchange. Please, if you have a child, help him or her to prepare an appropriate gift.
